The Man Who Came To Dinner by George S. Kaufman

Directed By Sean Michael Barrett

Design Concept Statement

The lighting design will be amber-toned to fit the realism of interior lighting in the late 1930s. For most of the show, the lighting will remain as a stage wash with moments of isolation on conversations and stories. There will also be interspersed comedic lighting bits to help emphasize the farcical comedy of the performance. These moments include lights bumping on for surprise visitors, dramatic pools of lights to highlight melodramatic monologues, and a lamp suddenly becoming bright as characters have an idea. The lighting should cater to realism while also embracing the playfulness of the comedic farces of the show.
